With its 5 inch OD, this tool provides for improved operational capacities over the traditional 4 ¾ size tool. The added capacity is produced to match recent motor and RSS systems of the same size. The capability for reactive torque and WOB is practically unlimited for the relevant bit-sizes and also under-reamers. All X-Series tools operate from zero WOB based on the patented double-acting spring principle supported by a mathematically optimized hydraulic resistance system to prevent excitation from the first initiation of the drill-bit cut. The stroke capacity of the tool is 10 inches or 0.25 meters to make feeding WOB smooth – even in the deepest wells.
The pressure loss through the tool is significantly down from the 4 ¾ inch to 75 psi at 350 GPM or 5 bar at 1300 lpm.
The 5.00 XC-AST layout is based on the larger 5.25 tool sizes but is optimized in all dimensions for maximum durability and safety under challenging conditions. The result is a unique dynamic capacity and the tool easily matches the most powerful fluid displacement motors and RSS suites in the market. The 5.00 X-Series AS forms a good basis for a systematic improvement in both drilling efficiency and operational reliability in this BHA size.
