Cimarex Energy Co deployed the Tomax XC-AST in pursuit of continuous improvement and reduction of well cost. The operator had identified two areas with big improvement potential:
- Bits pulled for failure (DTF)
- Bits pulled before 3,000 ft (1,000m)
The reference for these performance parameters in terms of relevant wells and BHA comprised 46 wells. The results with AST were presented after the tool had been used for 21 wells:

Clear gains with
AST deployment
The data showed a clear, positive impact from deploying the AST tool. Bit trips for DTF were down to a quarter while four times as many bits drilled beyond 3,000 feet.
