Çalık Petrol had been struggling with low drilling efficiency, toolface control and bit wear in Southeast Anatolia.
In addition to slow ROPs, there was also need to trip for a new bit at halfway in the 12.25” sections.

Objective
Çalık Petrol decided to run AYA Directional Drilling Systems enhanced with the Tomax 8 ¼’’ XC-AST tool to address some of these issues.
Results
The AST regulator delivered on all challenges. The new BHA gave almost double ROP and double footage for the bit. This meant the section was drilled to TD in one go.
Value
The improvement with AST is extraordinary in this case. The gain is likely a result of a high coefficients of friction between the rock and the bit. The sections uses water-based mud.
