Tomax Energy Monitor (TEM)

Comparing runs with and without AST used to be the best way to determine the added value from using an AST regulator. However, from 2021, a digital recording system was made available for all tool sizes. The solution is named Tomax Energy Monitor (TEM) and stores accurate data on the AST workload at any given time.

The AST workload is not reflected in any other data and the TEM data is unique for assessing the total corrective effort required for maintaining a steady cut. This means the TEM also provides a new insight to the drill bit and cutter performance.

This TEM graph from a recent drilling operation shows the AST effort to stabilize the PDC loading in different phases. This was from a floating rig so lots of work goes in to stabilizing the bit in the shore-track due to rig-heave effects.
